SPECIALTY ASIAN FUSION, PRIME & SEAFOOD COASTAL CUISINE RESTAURANT LA JOLLA

ABOUT US

THE ULTIMATE DINING EXPERIENCE — TO A COMPLETELY PERSONAL DINING EXPERIENCE.

A truly innovative casual fine dining concept nestled in the heart of La Jolla Playhouse, open for dinner before the Play.

Featuring signature seafood, fresh fish selections, Asian noodles and salads, great appetizers, diverse wine, and cocktail menus — all with that personal flair.

James’ Place menu includes an array of Holder’s signature coastal cuisine as well as Prime and Angus cuts of beef paired with California wines and craft beer. Seasonal and locally sourced seafood and sides will complement the lunch and bar menu, and lighter fare choices will be offered at the newly redesigned sushi/cocktail bar. Spirits will sit bathed in a spectrum from the color changing and very hip, new bar installed by Holder. James’ Place is the equilibrium between fine dining and ‘La Jolla Lay-ed Back,’ an energetic blend of cultures and entertainment that ensures everyone will find something new and enjoyable.

The staff is hand selected by James and GM Anthony Doll and strives to make your experience at James’ Place something you walk away from with a desire to return. Our bussers, hostesses, servers, cooks, dishwashers, caterers, cleaners, managers, and owners are all part of a team that is here to give you a high-quality experience.

James’ Place caters to theatre patrons, the La Jolla and greater San Diego community, students of UCSD and other local colleges, and any who love prime and seafood.

ABOUT JAMES HOLDER

James’ Place is the brainchild of renowned Sushi Master James Holder.

He began his professional career at several high-end prime seafood sushi restaurants in San Diego, including playing an integral role in the opening of UTC’s celebrated Café Japengo. During his tenure, Café Japengo was awarded the California Restaurants Association Gold Medallion Award for “Best Sushi” eight years in a row.

Born and raised in Japan, Holder started making sushi at the age of 13 with his mother in his hometown of Hiyama. He is currently Chef/Partner at Aburi Sushi in North Park and Chula Vista and at Mitch’s on El Paseo in Palm Desert, which was recently voted one of 10best.com’s “Ten Best Restaurants in the Desert.”
